The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has formally charged Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea, chairman of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), with soliciting and receiving a Sh5 million bribe from a businessman.

Kabeabea appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, where prosecution, led by Wesley Nyamache, told Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore that the ACA board chair allegedly sought a financial advantage of Sh5 million from businessman Du Zhisheng.

The bribe, prosecution said, was requested in return for favourable treatment in a case involving suspected counterfeit motor vehicle spare parts.

The offence is reported to have occurred on 11th November 2025. The DPP approved the charges after reviewing evidence gathered by investigators.

Kabeabea denied the allegations and was released on a Sh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million. The court further ordered him to surrender his passport and barred him from contacting or interfering with prosecution witnesses to protect the integrity of the case.

The matter is scheduled for mention on 8th December 2025, when the court is expected to give further directions.
