A day after his dramatic arrest during the nationwide Saba Saba protests, Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has this morning been taken to the Kahawa Law Courts, where he is set to be formally arraigned.

Mukunji, who was among the 567 people arrested during the state’s brutal crackdown on protesters, is expected to face charges related to incitement and his alleged role in organizing the mass demonstrations.

The vocal first-term legislator, known for his advocacy on youth empowerment, was arrested on Monday amid growing tensions between police and protestors demanding economic reforms, better governance, and justice for victims of police brutality.

The National Police Service has remained tight-lipped on the specific charges, but sources indicate that prosecutors may seek to detain the MP further to allow for more investigations.

His legal team, which has already termed the arrest politically motivated, has vowed to challenge any attempts to deny him bail, citing parliamentary privilege and due process violations.

This is a developing story. Channel 15 News will provide more updates as proceedings begin inside the courtroom.
