Makueni Senator Daniel Maanzo has submitted a censure motion in the Senate, calling for the removal of President William Ruto. This motion comes in the wake of discussions around Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s potential impeachment, which Maanzo opposes.
The senator contends that if any impeachment proceedings are initiated against Gachagua, they should also be extended to President Ruto, arguing that both leaders were elected together on the same ticket. Maanzo claims that President Ruto has breached the 2010 Constitution to a greater extent than Gachagua and should face the same consequences.
This motion reflects deepening divisions within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, as well as the ongoing debates about leadership and constitutional accountability.
