The Makadara Law Courts have granted detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) 10 days to continue holding Josiah Njeru Njiri, the taxi driver suspected to be behind the brutal killing of gospel musician Rachel Muthoni Wandeto.

The custodial order is expected to give investigators more time to deepen investigations into the shocking murder that has sparked outrage across the country.

According to investigators, the extended detention period will allow detectives to retrieve and analyse CCTV footage, trace key witnesses, and subject exhibits recovered from the scene to forensic examination as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police say they are also pursuing additional suspects believed to have participated in the incident.

The latest development comes as detectives officially rule out the controversial tattoo of President William Ruto’s face that Wandeto had on her chest as the motive behind the attack.

Instead, investigators now believe the killing may have been triggered by money-related disputes, a possible love triangle, and personal disagreements involving the suspect and the deceased.

Wandeto was attacked in Mwiki, Kasarani, after she was allegedly assaulted, doused with a flammable substance and set ablaze by her attackers.

She later succumbed to severe burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, where doctors reportedly confirmed that she had suffered burns covering approximately 75 percent of her body.

The murder case has continued to attract massive public attention online, with Kenyans demanding swift justice and the arrest of all individuals involved in the killing.

DCI homicide detectives are expected to present further findings in court once the ongoing forensic and witness investigations are completed.
