In a startling revelation, Machakos Youth Leader and Wiper Youth official Felix Mambo has claimed that his life is in danger due to his outspoken activism against Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration. Mambo, who also leads the Oversight Caucus, says he has been receiving threats and facing intimidation from senior Machakos executive officials, accusing them of trying to silence him.
Speaking to the press outside Athi River Police Station, where he had just recorded a formal statement, Mambo stated that the threats were an orchestrated effort by powerful figures in the county government. According to him, the senior officials have been unsettled by his criticism and oversight efforts, particularly his vocal stance on governance issues in Machakos County.
“I have been part of discussions where these individuals openly talked about having me taken out because of what they believe is my role in painting the Governor’s administration in a negative light,” Mambo claimed.
Mambo’s activism through the Oversight Caucus has focused on scrutinizing the leadership of Governor Wavinya Ndeti, especially on matters related to youth empowerment and county resource management. His outspoken nature, he suggests, has made him a target for those in power, who he says would prefer to intimidate him into silence rather than engage in dialogue.
He added, “This is not just about me—it’s about the future of our county and ensuring that leaders are held accountable. The threats are meant to stop me, but I will not be silenced.”
Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration has been in the spotlight for various reasons, including allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public facilities. These claims include the lack of essential medicines in hospitals, stalling of vital medical equipment, and poor service delivery in key sectors. The Governor has, however, denied these allegations, attributing the challenges to inherited problems and ongoing efforts to reform the county’s health and infrastructure sectors.
The youthful leader called for immediate investigations into the threats, stating that he fears for his safety but remains determined to continue his advocacy work.
At the time of publishing, no formal response had been issued by the office of Governor Wavinya Ndeti or other Machakos executive officials mentioned in the claims. However, political analysts suggest this is likely to heighten tensions within the county’s leadership, especially given Mambo’s influence among the youth.
Mambo’s allegations come at a time when youth leaders across Kenya are increasingly challenging local governments over accountability and transparency. Whether the claims will lead to an investigation or official response from the Machakos County government remains to be seen.
