Kitui County police have arrested the suspect believed to have carried out a brutal knife attack on a middle-aged woman and her minor in Tiva Village, Kyangwithya West Ward, Kitui Central Sub-County. The arrest, which took place this afternoon in Kyamathyaka, comes just hours after the shocking assault left the victims hospitalized at Kitui Referral Hospital.

According to eyewitness reports, the attacker ambushed the mother and child in the early hours of the morning, inflicting serious injuries before vanishing into the night. The violent nature of the incident sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents demanding swift action from authorities.

Confirming the arrest, Kyangwithya West Location Chief John Wambua told Channel 15 News that the suspect is currently being held at Itoleka Police Station and is set to appear in court tomorrow. “Our officers acted swiftly on intelligence reports, leading to the successful capture of the suspect. We are committed to ensuring justice for the victims,” Chief Wambua said.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though authorities are continuing their investigations. Meanwhile, residents of Tiva Village and its surroundings have called for enhanced security patrols, fearing a rise in violent crime.

As the suspect awaits his day in court, the victims continue to receive treatment, with doctors closely monitoring their condition. The arrest has brought some relief to the shaken community, but questions linger over the circumstances surrounding the attack.
