The Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) has elected a new national leadership team following its Annual General Meeting held on January 31, 2026, in Nairobi, ushering in a new phase of leadership for the journalists’ union over the next five years.

Erick Oduor was re-elected as Secretary General, retaining the post after members reaffirmed confidence in his leadership and continued advocacy for journalists’ labour rights, press freedom, and professional standards in Kenya’s media industry.
During the AGM, Ahmed Mohamed was elected Chairman, succeeding John Atambo, while Silas Kiragu assumed the role of Vice-Chairman, taking over from Oscar Obonyo.
In another key outcome, Vincent Owino of Business Daily was elected Deputy Secretary General, replacing Mary Daraja.

Other officials elected include Toepister Nabusoba as Treasurer, Kwamboka Oyaro as Organising Secretary, and Rose Nganga as Assistant Treasurer.
The newly elected KUJ leadership has pledged to strengthen labour rights protections, defend press freedom, and prepare the media sector for the upcoming general elections.
