Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern warning regarding the delayed reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), stating he will lead protests if the matter remains unresolved by March next year.
Speaking in Embu County, Kalonzo declared, “Uwongo wa Kasongo umefika mwisho! Before March next year, if IEBC has not yet been formed, I will lead maandamano.” This bold declaration highlights growing political frustrations over the electoral body’s vacancy, which has raised concerns about preparedness for future elections.
Kalonzo also put ODM on the spot, demanding clarity about its political positioning. “We also want ODM to tell us before the New Year 2025: Are you in the opposition or in government? You have to have a clear stand,” he added, echoing sentiments from opposition supporters seeking transparency amid shifting alliances.
The Wiper leader was addressing a charged crowd in Embu alongside key political allies, including DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Babayao Waititu. The leaders had earlier attended the burial of Getrude Muthoni Wanjira Namu in Kavuru, Kaagari South, Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County.
Kalonzo’s remarks come at a time of heightened political tension, with questions surrounding opposition unity and the IEBC’s delayed appointments gaining national prominence. His promise to mobilize demonstrations underscores the growing pressure on the government to expedite the electoral body’s formation while also addressing the opposition’s internal coherence.
The event further showcased the opposition’s renewed efforts to consolidate its base ahead of the 2027 elections, with leaders like Wamalwa and Kioni signaling solidarity with Kalonzo’s calls for accountability and political clarity.
As the country heads into a decisive year, Kalonzo’s tough stance on both the IEBC and ODM sets the stage for intensified political activity in the coming months.
