Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has openly confronted Kelvin Kinengo and Members of the Kitui County Assembly over what he termed as alignment with President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
In a fiery address delivered in Kamba dialect in Kyuso, Kalonzo declared that Wiper-elected MCAs must choose between party loyalty and siding with the national government.

“MCAs at the County Assembly of Kitui, we are putting you on notice. It is either you are with us or against us. Our people do not want anyone playing around with our road to the presidency in 2027. I am watching all of you. If you are not on our side, read the mood of the people,” he said.
Direct Warning to Speaker Kinengo
For the first time publicly, Kalonzo directly mentioned Speaker Kelvin Kinengo, urging him to reconsider what he described as his support for the government of the day.

The Wiper leader accused the Speaker of appearing to side with President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki while allegedly frustrating Wiper Party operations within the Assembly.
He further criticized what he termed as political games within the County Assembly, saying party leadership would not allow elected and nominated MCAs to undermine Wiper’s ideological position.
‘Irredeemable’ to Abandon Party Ideology
Kalonzo described it as unacceptable for leaders elected on a Wiper ticket to shift political loyalty after securing office.
He said the time for neutrality or double allegiance was over, warning that 2027 would be decisive.

In what appeared to be a pointed remark toward specific leaders, Kalonzo noted that some individuals who have benefited from his political sponsorship or support were now opposing him. However, he framed his comments within standard political caution, stating that leadership demands loyalty and consistency.
Assembly Wrangles Spill Into Open
The remarks come against the backdrop of prolonged wrangles over majority leadership positions in the Kitui County Assembly in 2025, disputes that nearly stalled oversight roles and delayed the passage of critical budget allocations.

Although Kalonzo had previously downplayed the tensions, his latest statement signals a tougher stance as he consolidates his political base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political Temperature Rising in Wiper Stronghold
Kitui remains a traditional Wiper stronghold, and the public rebuke of the Speaker and MCAs marks a significant escalation in internal party tensions.

Political observers say Kalonzo’s warning effectively draws a red line within the party ranks, signaling that those perceived to be aligning with President Ruto’s administration risk facing voter backlash in 2027.
With battle lines now clearly defined, the coming months could determine whether Wiper emerges unified — or fractured — in one of its most critical political bastions.
