“I Am the Medicine for Kitui East”: Kiema Kilonzo Vows Political Comeback

Kitui East politics is heating up after former legislator Kiema Kilonzo issued a bold signal of his intention to return to the political arena, framing himself as a solution to what he described as growing leadership and development challenges in the constituency.

Speaking on Friday during the burial ceremony of the late Dorcas Mutindi Matiki in Mwingi North Sub-county, Kilonzo struck a confident tone, telling supporters that he remains ready to serve again and bring renewed focus, experience, and effective representation to Kitui East.

While stopping short of making a formal declaration, his remarks were widely interpreted as an early comeback signal.

The burial, held at Matili Village, Ngaaie, Kyuso Ward, doubled as a major political convergence, drawing top national and county leaders and igniting fresh succession talk across Kitui County.

Among those in attendance were Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, alongside MPs, former legislators, MCAs, and senior county officials—an alignment political observers say reflects intensifying consultations ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Addressing mourners, Kalonzo Musyoka turned to national issues, delivering a pointed critique of the state of the education sector. He warned that policy shifts had disrupted systems built over decades, leaving hundreds of thousands of students at home and families under strain.

Kalonzo also defended youth participation in politics, cautioning against intimidation of young leaders and urging Kenyans to embrace diverse voices in democratic discourse.
Analysts note that Kiema Kilonzo’s remarks, made in the presence of influential opposition figures and at a highly symbolic public gathering, have injected fresh momentum into Kitui East politics.

Though no formal campaign has been announced, the timing and setting suggest that the race for the constituency is quietly but firmly taking shape.
