Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has vehemently denied accusations that she smuggled hundreds of millions of shillings to the United Kingdom, where she was allegedly detained. The governor condemned the claims as baseless, calling them an “insult to the intelligence of the people of Machakos.”
In an immediate release, Governor Ndeti addressed the allegations, stating, “My attention has been drawn to an online smear campaign designed and sponsored by my political detractors. This campaign is aimed at dampening the impact of the transformative work we are doing in Machakos.”
She further expressed her outrage at the absurdity of the allegations, noting that it was “demeaning and an insult” to assume she could smuggle such large sums of money into the UK. Ndeti pointed out the ignorance of those spreading the rumors, stating, “Those fabricating falsities are clearly unaware of the robust nature of UK Customs, Border Control, and Financial Institutions.”
Governor Ndeti also reassured her constituents of her family’s safety, affirming, “I can confirm that my family and I are safe and sound and remain in good standing both at home and abroad.”Highlighting the progress of her administration, she mentioned that her team has nearly completed 1,000 projects since she took office in August 2022. Additionally, in the fiscal year 2023/2024, the county collected KES 1.78 billion in Own Source Revenue, the highest ever recorded in Machakos since devolution began.
The governor warned that those spreading these defamatory claims would be pursued and brought to justice, stressing the gravity of the situation. She also expressed concern that the false narrative being peddled could endanger her family’s lives.”Let the authors of this narrative be warned that should anything happen to any member of my family or myself, you shall be held personally responsible,” she cautioned.Governor Ndeti closed by encouraging those behind the smear campaign to provide evidence when the law catches up with them, emphasizing that her administration would not be distracted from its development agenda.
