Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has sought to quell speculation over his attendance at President William Ruto’s functions in Kieni, insisting that his presence is purely official and should not be misconstrued as a shift in political allegiance.

“I have noted frenzied interest in my attendance of the President’s functions in Kieni. Do not read too much into this photo and others shared all over. The Presidency must be respected,” Kahiga stated in a post on his social media platforms.

The Governor emphasized that his role as Nyeri’s county chief necessitates his participation in such high-profile events, reiterating that he will also receive the President in Nyeri Town and Othaya Constituencies on Saturday. “Ni lazima kutofautishana mambo!” he added, in a statement seen as a call for distinguishing governance from political rivalry.

While Kahiga has positioned his presence at the events as a matter of protocol, political observers argue that his comments suggest an attempt to navigate the volatile political environment carefully. Some see his words as a reassurance of neutrality, while others speculate that they hint at deeper realignments within UDA.

As President Ruto prepares for his next visit to Nyeri, all eyes will be on Governor Kahiga’s moves. Will he continue to walk the fine line between duty and politics, or will his actions speak louder than his words? The unfolding dynamics in Mt. Kenya remain unpredictable.
