Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unleashed a stinging attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of masterminding a plot to weaken the Mt. Kenya region politically and economically. Speaking at a charged church gathering at AIPCA Igembe North in Meru County, Gachagua warned that Ruto, alongside a clique of powerful operatives at State House, is systematically dismantling the region’s leadership to eliminate any resistance.

According to Gachagua, this scheme is two-pronged—first targeting political leaders before eventually turning on businesses and economic strongholds of the region.

“Hii siyo ajali. Hii ni mpango wa kutunyamazisha ili tukikosa uongozi, biashara zetu pia zianguke. Mt. Kenya lazima ishtuke!” he declared.
The Martha Koome Factor
Gachagua framed the alleged bid to oust Chief Justice Martha Koome as part of this wider effort, arguing that it is not just an attack on the judiciary but a calculated move to erode Mt. Kenya’s national influence.

“Rais amepanga kufukuza Justice Martha Koome,” he roared to an animated crowd. “Amepanga pale kortini na amehonga watu!”
He issued a stern warning to Ruto, cautioning him against setting foot in Meru should he proceed with the removal of the Chief Justice.
“Ukifukuza Martha Koome, usijaribu kukanyaga hapa Meru tena!” he declared as the congregation erupted in applause.
Meru Leaders Under Fire
Gachagua did not spare Meru’s own political leaders, accusing them of being politically compromised after private meetings with the president. He alleged that they had abandoned their duty to stand up for their people in exchange for political favors.

“Tumewatuma huko ili mtetee Meru, siyo ili muwe vibaraka wa Ruto!” he lashed out.
The Miraa Betrayal
Gachagua also took aim at Ruto’s failure to fulfill his campaign promises to miraa farmers, reminding the people of how the president had presented himself as their champion during elections.

“Si alikuwa anakuja hapa juu ya gari anakula miraa?” he asked, triggering laughter and cheers from the crowd. He accused Ruto of using theatrics to win votes but failing to deliver meaningful change for miraa traders, whose livelihoods remain uncertain.
Gachagua’s remarks signaled an escalating rift between him and his former boss, setting the stage for a heated political confrontation in the coming days. The former deputy president appears determined to rally Mt. Kenya against what he perceives as betrayal and economic sabotage by the current administration.
