As Christmas Eve settles across the country, the familiar rhythms of the season return—families reunited after long journeys, church bells echoing from villages to cities, and a rare national pause after a year defined by pressure, debate, and endurance. For many Kenyans, this season is less about escape and more about reflection—on the choices made, the promises given, and the future taking shape before us.
The year 2025 forced the nation into difficult conversations. Rising living costs, sharpening political rhetoric, and questions around governance and accountability dominated the public space. As political formations shifted and the road to 2027 quietly took shape, Kenyans demanded more than slogans—they demanded honesty, delivery, and leadership rooted in reality.
From Lower Eastern, those national struggles played out in deeply human ways. At Channel 15 News, we reported from communities in Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos where drought stretched livelihoods to the brink, where sand harvesting and land use conflicts raised urgent questions of environmental justice, and where infrastructure promises—roads, water, health services—became political battlegrounds.
