Detectives attached to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have arrested four suspects over a large-scale fake recruitment scheme that defrauded unsuspecting job seekers of more than Sh40 million.
The suspects — David Kemei, a TSC Director in Konoin Sub-County; Rosebella Chepkemoi Korir, a former Bomet County Woman Representative aspirant; and two teachers, Leonard Siele Towett and Mercy Cherotich — were arrested following a painstaking investigation by detectives.

According to investigators, the suspects operated a well-coordinated fraud syndicate targeting unemployed teachers and members of the public. Victims were allegedly required to pay hefty sums of money in exchange for forged TSC appointment letters, falsely promising permanent and pensionable employment.
Detectives revealed that many victims took loans, sold property, or depleted their life savings in a desperate bid to secure the promised jobs.
The four suspects were on Friday arraigned before the Bomet Law Courts, where detectives obtained 14-day custodial orders to allow for comprehensive investigations into the scam.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fraud network extends beyond Bomet County to Kericho, Narok, Kisii, and Nyamira counties, with police now pursuing additional suspects believed to be part of the syndicate.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working closely with the TSC, reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks that exploit job seekers and undermine public confidence in government institutions.

The DCI has cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant and to verify all recruitment opportunities strictly through official TSC channels, emphasizing that TSC does not charge any fees for employment.
Members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scheme and are yet to report are urged to come forward and record statements at the nearest police station or DCI offices to aid ongoing investigations.
