The release of CCTV footage has shed light on the tense moments leading to a violent domestic dispute between controversial Nakuru pastor Elias Mutugi Njeru and his wife, Florence Wanjiku, on the night of Thursday, November 21, 2024. The footage, captured outside an apartment building, shows a heated altercation between the couple, marking the beginning of a series of events that culminated in a brutal attack.
The video depicts the couple locked in a verbal confrontation near the entrance of the building. Witnesses reported overhearing raised voices before Njeru is seen storming away, leaving Wanjiku visibly distressed. While the footage does not capture the subsequent events, authorities believe the altercation escalated into a violent assault later that night.
Wanjiku alleges that Njeru stabbed her multiple times during the attack, resulting in severe injuries, including the loss of several fingers. She described the incident as unprovoked and stemming from an earlier domestic dispute, a claim that has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.
The Aftermath of the Attack
Wanjiku, now recovering at a Nakuru hospital, detailed the ordeal as terrifying and life-threatening. “He attacked me without warning. I didn’t think I would survive,” she said. Doctors treating her confirmed that she suffered multiple stab wounds to her upper body and hands, with her condition now stable but requiring extended medical care.
Njeru Surrenders to Authorities
Four days after the incident, Njeru turned himself in at a Nakuru police station, accompanied by his lawyer. Despite mounting evidence, the pastor has not addressed the allegations directly. His lawyer maintains that Njeru is cooperating fully with investigators and insists on his innocence.
Police have since launched a detailed investigation, with the CCTV footage forming a key part of their inquiry. “We are reviewing the video and corroborating it with other evidence, including witness statements, to establish the full circumstances of the incident,” said Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwangi.
Rising Concerns Over Domestic Violence
The case has sparked an outcry from activists and the public, with many demanding swift action against Njeru. Women’s rights advocates have called for stricter laws and better enforcement to address the growing prevalence of domestic violence.
“The events leading to this assault highlight a deep-seated issue in our society. Domestic violence is unacceptable in any form, and justice must prevail,” said Anne Njeri, a vocal gender-based violence advocate.
Njeru is expected to be arraigned in court later this week as police finalize their investigations. Meanwhile, Wanjiku’s family has called for justice, urging authorities to ensure accountability for the pastor’s alleged actions.
