Several players from Hillside Football Club, a Division One Zone B team, have been hospitalized following a serious road accident that occurred Saturday evening as the team was returning to Lordwar from Kisii.

According to an official statement from the club, the team’s vehicle veered off the road under unclear circumstances. “A few of our players are currently unconscious, but we thank God there have been no fatalities,” the club confirmed. All affected members were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency medical care.

The players were returning from a key FKF Division One match against league leaders Gucha FC, played at Sameta Stadium. Hillside FC, currently in 4th place with 43 points, was narrowing the gap in the race for promotion, sitting just 11 points behind Gucha.

The Lodwar-based club made history earlier this year by becoming the first team from Turkana to feature in the FKF Division One, following a merger with Silibwet Leons. Hailing from Nakwemekwi Village, Hillside FC has been hosting its home matches at the modest Nakwemekwi Primary School Grounds — a symbol of grassroots determination and hope.

The club has called for calm and prayers from fans while urging the public not to spread unverified information. “We will continue to update you as we receive official reports,” the statement read.
Emergency services, club officials, and FKF representatives are reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Further details, including the condition of the unconscious players and the cause of the accident, are expected to be released soon.
