Bishop Ndigi Secondary School in Ngulini, Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County has been shut down indefinitely after a dawn inferno gutted down school dormitories, destroying property worth millions of shillings.

According to a source who spoke to Channel 15 News on condition of anonymity, the fire broke out early Monday morning while students were away for their morning preps. Although no injuries or fatalities were reported, the fire left significant destruction in its wake, displacing dozens of students.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the incident, with initial suspicions pointing to possible student involvement in orchestrating the blaze. Detectives from Mwala Sub-County have secured the scene as forensic teams comb through the debris for evidence.
“The safety of our students is paramount. As a precautionary measure, we have closed the school indefinitely to allow for investigations and restoration,” said a senior education official who requested not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.

School administrators are yet to issue an official statement, and efforts by Channel 15 News to get a comment from the principal were unsuccessful by the time of publishing.
