Kamba Elders Break from Kalonzo’s Grip, Throw Support Behind Anzauni Clan and Ruto’s Government Amid IEBC Stalemate

In a political earthquake that could shake the foundations of Ukambani, a rising tide of Kamba elders has pledged their full backing for the Anzauni clan’s decision to break away from the opposition politics spearheaded by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. This bold declaration comes on the heels of the ongoing IEBC reconstitution stalemate, where Kalonzo’s push to have his favored candidate, Dr. Koki Muli, appointed to the IEBC Selection Panel has failed in the face of overwhelming opposition.

The turning point was the recent IEBC election for the minority coalition cluster, where Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli emerged victorious, defeating Dr. Koki Muli by a landslide victory of 17 votes. Despite this democratic outcome, Kalonzo has continued to back Dr. Koki Muli, creating tension within the Kamba community. The failure to accept the results of the election has led many elders to accuse Kalonzo of prioritizing his own political interests over the needs of the community, particularly when it comes to development and representation.

A wave of influential Kamba elders, frustrated with years of stagnation under opposition politics, have now thrown their weight behind the Anzauni clan’s groundbreaking decision to join forces with President William Ruto’s government. During a heated meeting in Kitui, Mathew Mutua, a respected elder from the Aombe Clan , delivered a scathing critique of Kalonzo: “For too long, we have been pawns in Kalonzo’s political games. We cannot afford to follow a leader who refuses to respect the will of the people. Our future is with the government that can deliver real change.”

Dr. Augustus Muli, the NLP leader and Anzauni clan patron, has firmly stood by his victory in the IEBC election, and with the backing of the elders, he has committed to pushing for Ukambani’s development by working with President Ruto’s administration. “The Anzauni clan’s decision to work with the government is not just about politics; it’s about securing a future for our people,” Dr. Muli stated at a Thanksgiving dinner that has now become a symbol of unity and political reformation in the region.

Prominent figures, including elder David Mwoni, businessman Tom Luusa, and former Kitui South MP aspirant Engineer Dennis Mwangangi, have all pledged their allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government. They are now calling for a Cabinet Secretary position for Ukambani, arguing that this is the only way to ensure meaningful development in the region.

The pushback against Kalonzo’s continued opposition to Dr. Augustus Muli’s victory in the IEBC election, combined with the growing support for collaboration with Ruto’s government, is setting the stage for a full-fledged political showdown in Ukambani. With more elders joining the movement and openly defying Kalonzo’s authority, the political landscape in the region is shifting dramatically. The question now is whether Kalonzo will change course or if this rebellion will mark the end of his dominance in Kamba politics.

As the pressure mounts, all eyes are now on President Ruto to see if he will respond to the growing demands for political representation and development for Ukambani. One thing is clear—the Kamba community’s political future has entered uncharted territory.
