Bishop Julius Nyerere, the esteemed leader of Messiahship Church in Mwingi, has passed away while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, his family has confirmed.

In a statement released earlier today, the family expressed deep sorrow at the loss, describing Bishop Nyerere as a dedicated spiritual leader whose unwavering faith and commitment inspired countless lives in Mwingi and beyond.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch and servant of God, Bishop Julius Nyerere. He left us while under medical care at Kenyatta National Hospital. We are comforted by his legacy of faith, service, and compassion,” the family’s statement read.

The nature of the illness that led to his hospitalization remains undisclosed, but close sources indicate that the bishop had been battling a prolonged health condition. His death has left the Messiahship Church community and the larger Mwingi region in mourning.

Bishop Nyerere was a prominent figure in the spiritual and social fabric of the region, known for his impactful sermons, community development initiatives, and advocacy for peace and unity among diverse groups.

Religious leaders, local officials, and members of the clergy have started sending their condolences. Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos County expressed her sympathies, calling Bishop Nyerere “a beacon of hope and a pillar of wisdom whose absence will be deeply felt.”

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, with the family requesting privacy as they come to terms with their loss. Meanwhile, the Messiahship Church has called for prayers and support as the congregation prepares to bid farewell to its cherished leader.

This is a developing story, and Channel 15 News will provide updates as more details emerge.
