Kenya’s confirmed Ebola infections have risen to eight following the detection of one additional case, as the Ministry of Health intensifies efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent further transmission.
Speaking on Citizen Sunday Live, Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth said the latest case involves a 49-year-old man who developed fever, headaches and muscle pain. The man was not a direct healthcare worker.
Dr Amoth disclosed that 38 people were tested on the day of the announcement, with one returning a positive result.
The Ministry of Health says confirmed infections reported so far have largely involved healthcare workers and immediate family members of deceased patients, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance among frontline workers and close contacts.

Dr Amoth emphasised that Ebola is a potentially fatal disease requiring swift and coordinated intervention. He explained that the incubation period is 21 days, meaning individuals under monitoring may still require testing if they develop symptoms before completing the observation period.
He added that current testing efforts were focused on symptomatic individuals as authorities continue monitoring exposed persons and strengthening surveillance to identify infections.
On preparedness, Dr Amoth maintained that Kenya had adequate stocks of personal protective equipment (PPE) for distribution to healthcare workers involved in the response.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also supported the response by providing protective equipment, thermal guns and thermal scanners to strengthen screening and infection prevention efforts.
Dr Amoth further disclosed that the Chinese government had pledged US$1 million towards the response, although the funds had not been received at the time of his remarks.
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) had also committed US$1 million, which had yet to be deposited into the government’s account.

The pledged support comes as health authorities continue working to identify infections, monitor exposed individuals and prevent further transmission.
With eight confirmed cases reported, the Ministry of Health is urging continued vigilance as Kenya intensifies efforts to contain the outbreak and protect healthcare workers, families and the wider public.
