A junior secondary school teacher and a female student at Kitui Teachers College have been hospitalised following a violent incident at a rented house in Nzambani, Kitui East, in a case preliminary accounts link to an alleged dispute over messages found on the studentโs phone.
The teacher and the student are said to have been in a romantic relationship. Preliminary accounts indicate that the teacher picked up the student for an outing before taking her to the rented house, several kilometres from the college, where the confrontation reportedly escalated into violence.
According to the accounts, the teacher allegedly attacked the student with several stabs to the head, leaving her critically injured. The precise circumstances of the attack, however, remain subject to official verification.

The situation reportedly took another alarming turn when the teacher allegedly stabbed himself and set the house on fire. Neighbours are said to have noticed smoke and rushed to the scene, helping bring attention to the unfolding emergency.
Both the teacher and the student were subsequently admitted to Kitui County Referral Hospital for treatment. Their current medical conditions have not been independently established.
