Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations are in the final stages after senior government officials conducted an inspection tour of Wajir Stadium and key supporting infrastructure ahead of the June 1 national event.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo, who led the National Celebrations Steering Committee during the inspection visit in Wajir County, said the government is focused on ensuring a smooth, secure and dignified celebration as the country marks another year of self-rule.
Speaking after the tour, Omolo noted that the inspection assessed stadium readiness, logistical arrangements, transport coordination and other supporting facilities critical to the successful hosting of the national celebrations.

“With rehearsals already underway, teams on the ground are fine-tuning coordination, movement and program flow to guarantee seamless execution on the day of the celebrations,” said the PS.
The national event is expected to attract top government leaders, security agencies, diplomats and thousands of wananchi from across the country, placing Wajir County at the center of this year’s historic celebrations.

The inspection exercise brought together top national and county leaders, including Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, Culture, Arts and Heritage PS Ummi Bashir, Principal Secretary for National Government Coordination Ahmed Abdisalan and Wajir East MP Adan Daud.

Security preparations have also been heightened ahead of the celebrations, with multi-agency teams working around the clock to ensure safety and smooth movement during the national event.
Hosting the Madaraka Day celebrations is viewed as a major milestone for Wajir County, with local leaders expressing optimism that the event will showcase the region’s growth, infrastructure development and cultural diversity to the rest of the country.

This year’s celebrations come at a time when the government is pushing for greater inclusion and equitable national development across marginalized regions.
