Residents of Ukambani counties have been advised to prepare for moderate to heavy rainfall expected between February 21 and February 25.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, Machakos, Makueni and Kitui are among the regions likely to experience intensified off-season rains during the four-day period.

In a statement circulated to newsrooms, the Acting Director General noted that rainfall currently being experienced in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands both East and West of the Rift Valley — including Nairobi — is projected to intensify.

The department further indicated that the enhanced rainfall could spread to the South-eastern Lowlands and parts of the Coastal region, particularly the South Coast.

Authorities have cautioned residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert due to the risk of flooding. The department warned that floodwaters may impact downstream areas even where rainfall has not been heavy.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields,” the advisory reads in part.
The current rainfall is expected to subside from February 25, 2026.
