Two suspected drug traffickers are in police custody after detectives seized heroin valued at more than Sh4 million during a security operation in Utange, Mombasa County.
The suspects, Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar, were arrested following a joint operation involving the Anti-Narcotics Unit, the Transnational Organised Crime Unit, and officers from Kiembeni Police Station.

According to investigators, the operation was intelligence-driven and targeted a residential house in Barawa area, Kisauni Sub-County, which had been discreetly shielded by a high perimeter wall. Upon searching the house, detectives recovered several sachets of heroin hidden inside two bedrooms.

Further inspection of the compound led officers to another discovery — a separate package of heroin buried underground in one corner of the compound, a move police say was intended to conceal the drugs from detection.

In total, police recovered 1,346 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Sh4,092,000 on the street. A digital weighing machine and a drying machine were also confiscated, pointing to an organised narcotics operation.
The two suspects remain in custody as police complete investigations before presenting them in court.
The DCI has reiterated that sustained intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration remain key in the fight against drug trafficking and in safeguarding communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
