Kenya Fined Ksh 6.5 Million Over Safety Lapses at Kasarani, CAF Threatens to Relocate Matches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Kenya with a USD 50,000 (about Ksh 6.5 million) fine for multiple safety and security breaches during the national team’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) clash against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The CAF Disciplinary Board found the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) culpable of failing to enforce critical match-day security protocols, including inadequate deployment of personnel within the stadium perimeter and failure to observe designated road closures.

In a stern warning, CAF said persistent non-compliance could force it to move Kenya’s future home matches to neighbouring countries such as Uganda or Tanzania. The continental football body directed FKF to urgently bolster security measures to meet CAF’s safety standards.

The decision comes as a major embarrassment for Kenyan football, particularly with the country seeking to rebuild its reputation as a safe and capable host for international fixtures.
