Two suspects were arrested and cannabis worth an estimated Sh4.62 million seized after anti-narcotics detectives intercepted a vehicle transporting the illegal consignment along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

The operation was conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) following intelligence reports that a vehicle was being used to ferry narcotic drugs through the busy transport corridor.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives mounted an operation targeting a motor vehicle registration number KDX 264K after receiving credible information about its movements.

When officers signalled the vehicle to stop for inspection, the driver allegedly ignored the order and sped off, prompting a high-speed chase towards the Subukia area.

Detectives pursued the vehicle and eventually brought it to a halt after successfully deflating one of its front tyres.

The occupants, identified as David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. Investigators estimated the street value of the narcotics at approximately Sh4.62 million.

The suspects are being held in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

The seized drugs have been retained as exhibits as investigations continue.

The latest interception highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating across the country.

The DCI said it remains committed to dismantling narcotics syndicates and protecting communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
