Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power interruption across a wide stretch of Kitui County on Monday, July 14, 2025, to facilitate routine maintenance and system upgrades.

In a special press advertisement, the utility company indicated that the blackout will occur from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., affecting dozens of towns, villages, key institutions, and government offices across the county.
Areas to be affected include Kabati, Kwa Mutonga, Kauwi Dispensary, Musengo, Matinyani, Kauma, Unyaa, Mulutu, Ithiani, Tiva, Kakuuni, Katulani, Kwa Muli, Maliku, Kavisuni, Kanyangi, Kanyongonyo, Ilengi, Kyamathiaka, Kwa Vonza (including KU Kitui Campus), Miambani, Zombe, Kisasi, Mbitini, Mosa, Ikanga, Voo, Kinakoni, Ngiini, Kalundu, Mutune, Ithokwe, and Kitui CBD among many others.

Strategic installations and institutions like Kitui County Assembly, Governor’s Office, County Commissioner’s Office, Kitui General Hospital, Kitui Police Station, Kitui Prison, Kitui High School, Muslim Secondary, Total and Kobil petrol stations, KEFRI, JICA, KIE, and the Law Courts are also expected to be affected.
The blackout will also extend to remote areas such as Nguni, Ukasi, Kyuso, Tseikuru, Endau, Mutitu, Nuu, Waita, Kamuwongo, Mutha, Kaliku, Kimangao, Kora, Kaningo, Usueni, and Kiambere Water Supply.
Kenya Power urged residents to prepare adequately and assured that the scheduled maintenance is meant to enhance reliability and efficiency of electricity supply in the region.
“We regret any inconvenience caused and request the public to treat all electrical installations as live during the maintenance period,” read part of the notice from Kenya Power.
This comes at a time when many parts of Kitui have been experiencing intermittent outages, with some residents urging the utility company to expedite modernization of its infrastructure.
