Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kelvin Kinengo Katisya has acknowledged receiving a formal notice to show cause from the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) following accusations of undermining the party’s unity and advancing the interests of a rival political formation.
“I confirm receiving this letter from the Wiper Party office, and I will respond to it accordingly,” Speaker Kinengo told Channel 15 News on Saturday.
In the letter dated June 13, 2025, and signed by Disciplinary Committee Deputy Chairperson Mr. Mutinda Mutuku, the party accuses Kinengo of attending three separate meetings allegedly convened by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader and President William Ruto. These meetings reportedly took place at State House Nairobi on May 21 and June 3, and at a political rally in Kitui on June 6, 2025.
The letter further alleges that during the Kitui rally—hosted by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki—Kinengo made public declarations interpreted as aligning with UDA’s agenda and leadership.
The party claims these actions contravened several articles of the Wiper Party Constitution, including provisions related to party loyalty, ideological fidelity, and political association.
“You are hereby required to show cause in writing why disciplinary action should not be taken against you,” reads the letter in part, giving Kinengo a 14-day deadline expiring on June 27, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Should Kinengo fail to respond within the stipulated timeframe, the Disciplinary Committee warned that it would proceed to determine the complaint in his absence.
The Speaker now finds himself at the center of growing tension within the Wiper Party, which has recently faced internal friction over perceived overtures by Kenya Kwanza-allied leaders toward its elected officials in Ukambani.
