Ida Odinga has reassured Kenyans about Dr Oburu Ogingaโs condition, saying the ODM leader is alive but has been advised by his doctors to slow down and avoid physically demanding public gatherings.
Speaking at Migwena Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County, on Thursday during the first anniversary commemoration of former Prime Minister Raila Odingaโs death, Ida apologised on behalf of Oburu, who was absent from the gathering.
โPlease allow me to convey apologies from Dr Oburu. He is not feeling well, but he is not very sick. He is alive,โ Ida told mourners.

She explained that the doctors attending to Oburu had advised him to take things slowly rather than attend a rally characterised by large crowds and intense activity.
โThe doctors who are looking after him have said that he should go slow and not come to a rally like this,โ she said.
Ida added that she was delivering a message entrusted to her by Oburu, who wanted his absence explained to those attending the memorial.
The remarks offered an update on the condition of the Siaya Senator and ODM leader, whose absence from recent public events had drawn attention amid concerns about his health.
Oburu also missed the October 7 handover and dedication ceremony of Railaโs mausoleum at Kangโo ka Jaramogi, where members of the Odinga family conveyed his apologies and greetings to those present.
His office has previously maintained that he was alive and recovering under medical supervision, while details of his condition have not been publicly disclosed.

Thursdayโs gathering at Migwena Grounds brought together family members, political leaders and supporters to honour Raila, who died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical attention in India.
The memorial marked one year since the death of the veteran opposition leader, whose decades-long political career left a significant imprint on Kenyaโs multiparty democracy and national politics.
