The Wiper Democratic Movement has executed a dramatic shake-up in the Kitui County Assembly, replacing key figures in the Majority Leadership.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker by the party—of which Channel 15 News is in possession—Wiper formally communicated the new leadership lineup following a high-stakes meeting held on Monday, March 3, 2025. The changes are seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2025 House Callender.

Kyuso Mca Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi the new Majority Leader takes charge as Wiper Party strengthens its grip on the Assembly operations this year.

In the line up , Kyuso Mca Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi takes over the helm as the new Majority Leader, while Hon. Dr. Erastus Musyoka Mbuno assumes the position of Deputy Majority Leader. Hon. Daniel Nggima Kimanzi has been named Majority Whip, with Hon. Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka as the Deputy Majority Whip.

While the letter calls for a “smooth transition,” sources within the party suggest the move was influenced by internal power struggles and dissatisfaction with the previous leadership’s performance on key legislative matters, including budget oversight and governance issues. The restructuring signals Wiper’s intent to tighten its grip on Kitui County’s political direction as it fends off emerging opposition forces.

This leadership shake-up also comes amid increasing scrutiny over the performance of Kitui’s county government, with factions within Wiper reportedly pushing for stronger oversight against Governor Dr Julius Malombe’s administration.

The new team will be closely watched on how it navigates pressing issues such as infrastructure funding, county accountability, and legislative cohesion.

With Kitui County politics growing increasingly volatile, the question remains—will this new leadership bring stability, or is it just the beginning of another storm within the Assembly?
