Tension is brewing within the Wiper Democratic Movement as party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka hinted at disciplinary action against senior members who voted against the party’s position in the recent impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wiper and its coalition partner, Jubilee Party, both part of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, had issued a clear directive to their MPs to refrain from supporting the motion to remove Gachagua from office. However, some MPs, including Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, alias CNN, defied the party’s instructions and voted in favor of the impeachment, sparking outrage within the party ranks.

Speaking after the motion, Kalonzo Musyoka expressed his disappointment with MPs who went against the party’s stance, particularly singling out Nguna. He issued a stern warning to those who defied the party line, saying they should “prepare for the worst” as the party would take action against their disloyalty.
“This country calls for true liberation, and I want to call every member of the party to order. You are either in the party or you switch to UDA early, so that we know who we are dealing with,” Kalonzo stated emotionally.
The Wiper leader was especially critical of Nguna, whose constituency, Mwingi West, is affected by stalled development projects, such as the Mbondoni-Mwingi Road. Kalonzo questioned Nguna’s loyalty, pointing out that the road project has been stalled under President Ruto’s administration, yet the MP voted in favor of Gachagua, seemingly supporting the government’s interests.

The remarks have raised concerns over internal divisions within the Wiper party, as some MPs appear to be gravitating toward the ruling coalition. Kalonzo’s statement signals that the party may soon crack the whip on members perceived to be disloyal, further intensifying the political heat within the Azimio coalition.
