After nearly six months in captivity, Wajir County Assembly Minority Leader Yussuf Ahmed Hussein has finally resurfaced under chilling circumstances, shedding light on the horrors of enforced disappearances in Kenya.
The Dela Ward MCA, who was abducted on September 13, 2024, in Nairobi, walked into his Eastleigh residence late Saturday night, clutching a Quran—his only companion during the ordeal. According to family sources, Hussein was dropped off at Pangani shopping centre at around 11 p.m. by unidentified individuals, who handed him Ksh 5,000, warned him not to look back, and disappeared into the night.
‘I Heard Bob Njagi Screaming’
While Hussein remains frail and emotionally shaken, his whispered recollections paint a harrowing picture of captivity. He told his family that during his time in detention, he was moved between multiple locations, often blindfolded, making it impossible to determine where he was held.
In a shocking revelation, Hussein disclosed that he was not alone—he claims to have heard the voice of missing political activist Bob Njagi, who has been unaccounted for since October 2024.
“I could hear him screaming in pain. I recognized his voice. He was in a nearby room,” he reportedly told his family, indicating that Njagi may still be in captivity under unknown circumstances.
A Calculated Release?
Hussein’s sudden return has left his family and political allies with more questions than answers. Who abducted him? Why was he released? And most disturbingly—where is Bob Njagi?

His relatives describe him as subdued, weak, and reluctant to discuss details, raising concerns that he may have been warned against speaking out. The fact that he was dropped off with cash and a direct order not to turn around suggests a well-orchestrated release rather than a desperate escape.
Demand for Justice
With enforced disappearances on the rise in Kenya, Hussein’s case reignites debates over state security operations, political abductions, and the fate of those who vanish without a trace. His family is now calling for an independent investigation, urging authorities to uncover the truth behind his abduction and detention.
Meanwhile, the question looms—what happened to Bob Njagi? If Hussein’s claims are true, Njagi may still be languishing in captivity, enduring the very torture Hussein was lucky to escape.
With tensions rising, all eyes are now on the government and security agencies for answers.
