Former Machakos Town MP Dr. Victor Munyaka has turned down President William Ruto’s appointment as chairperson of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre, a move that has stirred conversations in political circles. In a statement, Dr. Munyaka shared that his decision was a result of “soul-searching” and wide consultations.

He expressed concerns over the rising political temperature, particularly the growing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza administration between President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Munyaka, a steadfast ally of the President, noted that the ongoing political squabbles are hindering the government’s ability to deliver on its economic transformation agenda. He emphasized that, under these conditions, it would be difficult for him to execute his duties effectively. Despite declining the offer, he extended his gratitude to Ruto for considering him for the role and wished him well in his leadership.
This development follows Munyaka’s recent criticism of the government for neglecting the Kamba community in key appointments. During a public address, he stressed that the region had contributed significantly to Ruto’s electoral victory and deserved better representation in the government. His decision to decline the appointment highlights deeper frustrations within the region over perceived exclusion from important government roles.
