Two people were killed on Friday evening after suspected pastoralist attackers raided parts of Itimba Ithei and neighbouring Tseikuru in Mwingi North, Kitui County.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over insecurity in the region, coming weeks after previous deadly incidents that left eight people dead in Kwa Kamari and residents demanding stronger security measures and swift justice for victims.
Residents said the attackers struck in the evening, causing panic among villagers and forcing some families to flee.

Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, who was on a development tour of Kitui East Constituency, took to social media to condemn the killings and urged security agencies to intensify operations in the area to prevent further violence. She called for swift action against those responsible and emphasized the need to guarantee the safety of residents living in affected communities.
The incident is expected to reignite debate over security along the Kitui border region, where communities have repeatedly reported attacks linked to disputes over grazing land, livestock and access to resources.
Authorities had not issued a detailed statement on the attack by the time of publication, while investigations into the latest killings were underway.
