A cloud of sorrow has engulfed Punda Millia village in Makuyu, Murang’a County, after DNA results confirmed that the mutilated body retrieved from the Sagana River belonged to missing businesswoman Lucy Wamaitha.

The young woman, who had travelled to Embu on January 16th for a business trip in the company of her male boss, mysteriously went missing, sparking frantic searches and emotional appeals from her family and friends. Days later, a grisly discovery was made—an unrecognizable body stuffed in a bag, hacked into pieces, with the head stripped of flesh, was found floating in the Sagana River.

For weeks, the family clung to hope that Lucy would be found alive. However, the worst was confirmed after forensic experts matched DNA samples taken from Lucy’s mother to the remains retrieved from the river. The results left the family devastated, finally confirming that the brutalized body belonged to their beloved daughter.
“What was done to my daughter is inhuman. We want justice. We can’t sleep knowing the killers are walking free,” Lucy’s heartbroken mother cried out, demanding urgent action from the authorities.

The family is now calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to fast-track investigations and bring those responsible to book. The mysterious disappearance of Lucy after traveling with her boss has raised eyebrows, with many demanding that the man be treated as a person of interest in the unfolding murder probe.
The shocking murder has sent chills across Murang’a and Embu counties, with locals decrying the rising cases of women lured to their deaths in the guise of business or work-related trips.

As the family prepares to lay Lucy to rest, they say they will not rest until justice is served.
“This was someone’s daughter. Someone’s sister. Someone’s mother. She did not deserve to die like this,” a family member said during an emotional press briefing.
The body is set to undergo further postmortem examinations as detectives piece together Lucy Wamaitha’s last moments in a case that has now gripped the nation.
