Grief has struck Timboni, Mikiyuni, in Kibwezi East Constituency after a Grade 8 pupil drowned in a quarry borehole while swimming with friends.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred during an evening outing to water livestock. The young boy, whose identity remains undisclosed, got stuck in the mud and was unable to free himself. His desperate friends tried to rescue him, but their efforts were in vain.

Police in Kibwezi East have since launched investigations into the matter, while locals express growing concerns over the dangers posed by unsecured quarries in the area.

A Makueni Red Cross official, who spoke to Channel 15 News on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the victim’s body was yet to be recovered by press time. Authorities have postponed retrieval efforts to early morning, citing poor visibility and safety concerns.

This tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for action to fence off or rehabilitate abandoned quarry sites to prevent further loss of life.

Stay tuned for updates as the recovery operation continues.
