In what could mark a turning point in Kamba politics, a high-profile dinner meeting hosted by Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli in the Lower Eastern Region erupted with fiery calls for unity and a bold move to embrace President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Prominent leaders and influential figures delivered impassioned speeches, painting a damning picture of the Kamba community’s decades-long stagnation in opposition politics. Hon. Moses Banga, with the weight of conviction, declared, “The time for disunity is over. We will work towards bringing all Kitui County leaders—both elected and unelected—together. President Ruto’s government stands ready to support us in this mission.”
Makueni businessman Tom Luusa added fuel to the fire, stating it was time for the community to drop old political habits. “Our disunity has cost us. It’s time to unite and take our place at the table of national leadership!” he charged, drawing applause from the crowd.
But it was Engineer Dennis Mwangangi, former UDA aspirant for Kitui South Constituency, who set the room ablaze with his no-holds-barred criticism of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. “For over 20 years, we’ve been held hostage by bad politics. Kalonzo has dragged the Kamba community into opposition for far too long. Enough is enough—it’s time to break free from his outdated kinship and embrace progress!” Mwangangi thundered, sending shockwaves through the room.
Speaker after speaker echoed similar sentiments, insisting that aligning with President Ruto’s broad-based government was the only way to reverse years of neglect and put the Kamba region on the path to development.
Despite their absence due to official duties, Livestock and Agriculture Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke and TARDA Board Director Charles Mwalimu sent messages of support for the unity initiative, signaling growing momentum for the movement.
The dinner meeting, which drew a host of influential figures, could signal the beginning of the end for Wiper’s dominance in Ukambani. With growing discontent and calls for a new direction, the question on everyone’s lips is clear: Is this the dawn of a new political era for the Kamba community?
