    Kiio Secondary School in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County, was the epicenter of electrifying football action as the 2024 Nguna Cup Finals attracted record-breaking crowds in a sensational two-day showdown. The annual tournament, hosted by Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, delivered unmatched drama, passion, and talent, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.

    The ladies’ finals turned into a spectacle of grit and determination as Ajax Starlets triumphed over Kairungu Starlets in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. The atmosphere was electric, with every kick met by deafening cheers from the crowd. Ajax Starlets celebrated their victory with emotional scenes that underlined the stakes of this prestigious competition.

    However, the real drama unfolded in the men’s final. Kitumbi FC and Eiber City battled to a tense 2-2 draw on December 31, but the showdown didn’t end there. Controversy erupted, forcing the match to be rescheduled for January 1. The replay turned into a grudge match, and Kitumbi FC silenced their critics by defeating Eiber City 3-2 in a nail-biting finish, sparking wild celebrations among their fans.

    The Nguna Cup, a December tradition, is more than just a tournament—it’s a platform for uncovering and nurturing local football talent while uniting communities in Kitui County. This year’s event not only showcased football at its finest but also cemented its reputation as a carnival of sportsmanship and spectacle.

    Speaking to Channel 15 Sports Desk, tournament patron and visionary leader Charles Nguna couldn’t hide his pride. “This was a tournament for the history books! The talent, the passion, and the community spirit have been exceptional. I am thrilled to see such overwhelming support, and I believe we are witnessing the rise of future football stars,” he said.

    The Nguna Cup Finals have set a new standard for grassroots football in Kenya. With its unmatched energy, drama, and talent, it has firmly established itself as a crown jewel in Kitui County’s sporting calendar. Fans are already looking forward to next year’s tournament, which promises even bigger thrills.
