In a dramatic twist that has sent shockwaves across Ukambani, the Kamba Council of Elders, led by Chairman Anzauni, has boldly declared their allegiance to President William Ruto’s administration, leaving Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka out in the cold. The elders denounced Kalonzo’s opposition politics, arguing that his approach has left the Kamba community lagging behind in development and opportunities.
“The era of blind opposition is over. We must align with the government in power if we want to secure progress for our people,” Chairman Anzauni declared, delivering what many see as a direct rebuke of Kalonzo’s leadership.
Kalonzo Scrambles to Respond
Caught off guard by the elders’ move, Kalonzo sought to downplay the impact during a live X Space stream, but his response left more questions than answers. Instead of challenging the elders’ decision head-on, Kalonzo pivoted to the ongoing IEBC Selection Panel case, where NLP Party Leader Dr. Augustus Muli is at the center of a legal battle.
“If the courts rule in favor of Dr. Muli, I will respect the decision and allow the IEBC reconstitution process to proceed,” Kalonzo said, a statement many viewed as an uncharacteristic concession from the seasoned politician.
The IEBC case, set for mention on January 21, 2024, at the Kiambu Court of Appeal, has become a flashpoint in Ukambani politics, with Dr. Muli gaining ground as a rising force.
Augustus Muli: Kalonzo Is Outdated
In an exclusive interview with Channel 15 News, Dr. Augustus Muli did not mince his words. Laughing off Kalonzo’s opposition stance, Muli declared, “The Akamba Clans Council of Elders works with the government in power. This is how progress is achieved. Kalonzo’s outdated politics of defiance have done nothing for our people.”
Muli dismissed Kalonzo’s claim that Kambas do not believe in clan-based politics, arguing that the elders’ decision reflects the voice of the community. “The people are tired of empty speeches and opposition for the sake of it. They want leaders who can deliver results,” Muli stated emphatically.
The Fall of Kalonzo’s Ukambani Stronghold?
With the Kamba Council of Elders now firmly backing the government, Kalonzo’s political empire appears to be crumbling. Once regarded as the unchallenged kingpin of Ukambani, Kalonzo now faces an existential crisis as his relevance in national politics dwindles.
The elders’ declaration marks a watershed moment, with the IEBC Selection Panel case poised to be the ultimate test of Kalonzo’s influence. Should the courts side with Dr. Muli, it could signal the end of Kalonzo’s dominance in Ukambani, paving the way for a new political order.
As Kenya waits for the January 21 ruling, the question on everyone’s lips is clear: Is this the end of Kalonzo Musyoka as the region’s political kingpin?
