Kangundo Level 4 Hospital in Machakos County has once again found itself under scrutiny for substandard conditions, raising serious concerns about the state of healthcare at the facility.
The hospital, which was previously in the spotlight just a few months ago due to malfunctioning mortuary cooling fridges that led to the temporary closure of the morgue, is now facing fresh criticism following a surprise visit by Machakos County Senator, Hon. Agnes Kavindu Muthama.
During her inspection, Senator Kavindu was met with appalling conditions at the hospital. Issues such as inaccessibility of essential facilities like toilets, poor waste management, and a lack of medical supplies were highlighted by patients. The senator was informed that the hospital lacked basic diagnostic services, including essential tests and X-rays, leaving patients without critical healthcare services.
Moreover, patients at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital revealed that those needing referral transfers to other medical facilities are being charged Ksh 3,000 as a fuel fee for ambulance services—a practice that further burdens the already struggling patients. Complaints were also raised about the unavailability of simple medications like painkillers.
Addressing the press outside the hospital, Senator Kavindu expressed her outrage at the deteriorating conditions and demanded immediate action from Machakos County Governor, Hon. Wavinya Ndeti. The senator warned that failure to address the issues would result in summoning the governor before the Senate to answer for the deplorable state of the hospital.
“We can’t allow this to continue under our watch. The Governor has to address this,” Senator Kavindu stated firmly, signaling her commitment to ensuring that the residents of Machakos County receive the quality healthcare they deserve.
As the situation unfolds, the spotlight remains firmly on Kangundo Level 4 Hospital, with residents and healthcare advocates eagerly awaiting the county government’s response.
