A Nairobi woman has sparked online debate after claiming she was left stranded with a KSh10,000 bill at a city restaurant after a man she met through Facebook allegedly vanished during their date.

Juliette Awata shared her account on social media, saying the man had been an active follower who often interacted with her posts before inviting her out for drinks on a Sunday evening at a rooftop restaurant in Sarit Centre.

According to her post, she had earlier reviewed his profile and believed he was genuine based on his photos and social connections.

She says she arrived at the venue later in the evening and found him already seated and drinking alone. The man allegedly ordered a cocktail for her and some food as they engaged in conversation.

Awata claims the date appeared normal at first, with light conversation and compliments exchanged between the two.

However, things reportedly changed when the man began excusing himself repeatedly to take phone calls, leaving the table each time he returned.

Moments later, he allegedly stepped out again and never returned.

“At first I thought he was just busy with calls, but he never came back,” she said in her account.

As she waited, Awata says she continued with her drink and the background music, unaware of what had allegedly happened.

It was only later when she inquired from a waitress that she learned the bill had not been settled.

To her shock, she was informed that the total bill had accumulated to approximately KSh10,000, despite her own consumption being valued at about KSh1,550.

Restaurant management reportedly held her briefly as they sought clarification on the missing guest.

The incident left her embarrassed and frustrated, according to her post, as she was forced to settle the full bill.

Awata further claims that after she threatened to expose the man online, identified as Allan Blessed Ochieng, his social media account was deleted.

The allegations have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users sympathizing with her while others urged caution when meeting strangers from online platforms.

As of publication, the claims had not been independently verified, and efforts to reach the man for comment were unsuccessful.
