In a stinging political broadside, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has sensationally claimed that President William Ruto is preparing to cling to power by any means necessary — including crippling the electoral process and turning State House into a symbol of permanent rule.
Speaking during a hard-hitting interview on Citizen TV, Karua accused the president of deliberately stalling the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), effectively leaving the country without a referee for the 2027 general elections.

“I look at Ruto and I don’t see a man preparing for elections — I see someone acting like he holds a title deed to State House,” Karua said. “He’s denying the country a credible IEBC, and that alone is a red flag for anyone who cares about democracy.”

Karua further condemned President Ruto’s controversial move to construct a Ksh.1.2 billion mega-church within State House grounds, suggesting it’s part of a larger scheme to entrench himself in power — both politically and symbolically.
“Why build a church inside State House unless you believe you’re there for eternity?” Karua asked. “It’s not leadership — it’s delusion. He’s converting a public office into a personal shrine.”
The revelation of the church’s construction has sparked a heated national debate, with critics accusing the president of prioritizing political optics and personal image-building over pressing public needs.

In one of her most explosive claims, Karua said Ruto’s moral authority to govern had already been revoked by the people during the Gen Z-led protests of 2024.
“He should remember he was fired last year by Kenyans during the Gen Z uprising. He’s on borrowed time. Instead of reflecting and correcting, he’s adding insult to injury.”
Karua warned that if the regime doesn’t change its course, the people have every constitutional right to initiate an early political exit for the president.
“If you want to meet us on the ballot, change your ways. If not, Kenyans have the power to terminate this contract early. This regime is rogue and illegitimate.”
The PLP leader also blasted President Ruto’s controversial claim that “if there is no Kenya for Ruto, there will be no Kenya at all,” calling it apocalyptic rhetoric meant to incite fear and instability.
“That is the language of a cornered leader — one who’s ready to drag the whole country down with him. We must resist it with everything we’ve got.”
Karua dismissed ongoing calls for a national dialogue, branding it a “political scam” designed to broker power deals among elites while leaving ordinary Kenyans suffering.
“This dialogue nonsense is not for us. It’s a boardroom game to buy time and silence dissent. Kenyans don’t need another handshake. They need accountability, justice, and leadership that respects them.”
In her parting shot, Karua rallied Kenyans to rise above fear, tribalism, and political fatigue to confront what she termed “a hijacking of the republic.”
“This is our country. If we allow it to fall into the hands of those who think power is permanent, we lose it all. It’s time to stop the rogue regime in its tracks.”
