Residents of Ikanga-Kyatune Ward in Kitui South are now breathing a sigh of relief after the long-awaited grading of feeder roads in the area kicked off in earnest, thanks to a close collaboration between their vocal MCA Hon. Cyrrus Kisavi and the Kitui County Government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.

For years, locals have struggled with impassable, dusty, and bumpy roads that made connecting to nearby towns a nightmare, especially during the rainy season. However, the ongoing grading works have turned the situation around, reducing travel time and transforming the once rugged paths into smooth routes that now rival tarmacked roads
Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, Hon. Cyrrus Kisavi expressed his satisfaction with the progress made, terming it a promise kept to his people.

“I vowed to make our roads passable, and today, I am proud to say we have made major steps. The work happening now is not just grading; it is about restoring the dignity of the people of Ikanga-Kyatune Ward. Our mothers, school children, and farmers can now move easily and connect to the main towns without the suffering weโve seen before. This is what development means,โ Kisavi said.
He further lauded Governor Malombe for supporting the ward’s development agenda, noting that the countyโs goodwill and machinery have made the work easier and faster.

According to the MCA, road grading is ongoing across all the seven county villages in Ikanga-Kyatune Ward as part of a comprehensive infrastructure improvement plan. Some of the key roads that have already been graded include the Chief Makau-Kisimuni road via Wingololi Primary School in Ithumula.
Explaining the importance of this particular road, Hon. Kisavi noted that it serves as a critical link for hundreds of families and school-going children in Ithumula area. “This road is not only vital for farmers taking their produce to markets, but it also connects pupils to Wingololi Primary School. Grading it ensures our children go to school safely, especially during the rainy season when the road used to be completely impassable,” he added.

Currently, works are underway in Kyatune county village, and the MCA confirmed that tomorrow, the grader will move to Vote/Ndatani, which is also set to benefit from this crucial exercise.

Preparations underway as Vote/Ndatani Access Road becomes the next beneficiary of the ongoing grading program aimed at easing movement for residents and boosting local trade.
Residents who spoke to Channel 15 News couldnโt hide their joy, with many saying the improved roads will open up the ward for business and ease movement, especially for farmers transporting their produce to markets.
“We used to take over an hour to reach the main road because of bad roads. Now, within minutes, we are in town. The dust is reducing, and the ride is smooth, almost like tarmac,” said one excited resident.
But Hon. Kisavi says the road works are just the beginning. The MCA revealed that he is already engaging development partners and the county government in plans to sink boreholes across the ward to solve the perennial water shortage problem.

“Water is life, and as your MCA, I understand the pain our people go through searching for clean water. My next focus is to ensure that every village has access to safe and clean water through boreholes. Talks are ongoing, and very soon, you will see drilling machines on the ground,โ Kisavi assured.
The MCAโs proactive approach has earned him praise, with many residents terming him a leader who not only speaks but delivers.
