President William Ruto has signed into law seven parliamentary Bills designed to advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The legislative package focuses on enhancing economic productivity, improving public service delivery, and reinforcing governance structures.
Among the signed laws is the Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which introduces key changes aimed at streamlining tax administration. The amendments are expected to optimize revenue collection processes, reducing bureaucratic hurdles while ensuring increased government income to fund priority development programs.
The Kenya Roads (Amendment) Bill, 2024 seeks to address infrastructural challenges by overhauling the governance and management of road networks across the country. It provides a framework for improved road maintenance and expansion, a critical factor in boosting trade and enhancing connectivity in both rural and urban areas.
In the fight against corruption, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024 reinforces the mandate of the EACC. The amendments provide the agency with enhanced investigatory and prosecutorial powers, a move aimed at improving accountability and tackling graft in public institutions.
The Statutory Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2024 introduces reforms to simplify and standardize the process of drafting and implementing regulations. This ensures that statutory guidelines align with broader policy goals, fostering compliance and reducing administrative inefficiencies.
Speaking at the signing ceremony at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto emphasized that these legislative changes are pivotal to achieving his administration’s economic and governance goals.
“These new laws lay a strong foundation for sustainable development and social transformation. They demonstrate our commitment to improving infrastructure, tackling corruption, and ensuring an efficient and transparent government,” said the President.
By enacting these Bills, the government aims to create a more robust economic framework while addressing systemic inefficiencies in public administration. President Ruto expressed confidence that these measures would accelerate Kenya’s progress toward equitable growth and inclusive development.
