The head of state has appointed a taskforce to conduct a forensic audit of Kenya’s public debt. The Taskforce is expected to table its report within three months. At the same , he has announced scrapping of 47 overlapping institutions in various ministries in a move aimed at cutting down costs on expenses.
In a state address televised today, President also revealed a decision to suspend appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS).
In the new austerity measures announced by Ruto, purchase of new motor vehicles in government has been suspended for 12 months, except for security agencies, as well as non-essential travels for government workers.
The government also announced that it will hire JSS teachers and medical interns.At the same time the state has banned all state officers and public servants from participating in public contributions or Harambees, and denied The offices of spouses, Rachel Ruto, Dorcas Rigathi and Tessy Mudavadi budget.

President William Ruto also revealed that the government will borrow money to fund milk stabilisation programme, revivie stalled projects across the country and fertiliser subsidy programme, settling debts owed to coffee farmers, enabling public-owned sugar mills to pay debts to sugarcane farmers.
