Kicks and blows, a Sergeant-at-Arms losing teeth, the infamous “Masaku slap” landing on a female MCA, and Matinyani MCA Sylvester Munyalo (Yaamu) dramatically jumping over the Assembly fence—it’s clear that the County Assembly of Kitui is no longer a House of order this year. The political temperatures have boiled to a fever pitch, signaling an all-out war for control.

What started as a leadership shake-up has now morphed into a brutal political onslaught against Speaker Kelvin Kinengo, who finds himself at the center of a well-orchestrated scheme to push him out.

The chaos gripping the Assembly is far from random; sources within Wiper Party have told Channel 15 News Political Scoop that the disorder is part of a grand plan to cripple Kinengo’s influence, particularly as he eyes the Mwingi North parliamentary seat in 2026—a position that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka reportedly wants for his son.

With 39 MCAs supporting Wiper-backed changes and only 21 standing with Kinengo, his grip on the Assembly is slipping fast. His impeachment is said to be imminent, with insiders revealing that a motion to remove him could be tabled at any time.

Yesterday, the new Majority Leadership of the House, which Kinengo has refused to recognize, issued a bold ultimatum: either he acknowledges them, or they will impeach him. Speaking to the press, the new Majority Leader made it clear that they would not allow Kinengo to sabotage the Assembly’s operations to protect his dwindling influence.

“This Assembly belongs to the people of Kitui, not to Kinengo’s political ambitions. If he continues defying the will of the majority, we will send him home,” one of the leaders declared.

To make matters worse, Kinengo is increasingly isolated. His attempt to rally MCAs to impeach the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Finance over corruption allegations backfired, creating more enemies than allies. Now, Wiper’s strategy is clear—paralyze the County Assembly, cut off Kinengo from the Assembly’s budget, and force him out.
Political commentator Steve Muthoka, speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News Political Scoop, paints a grim picture of Kinengo’s political survival. “He is viewed as arrogant and lacking the wisdom to regroup after losing control of his MCAs. Instead of recalibrating his strategy, he is doubling down in a war he is unlikely to win,” Muthoka said. He compared Kinengo’s situation to that of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his infamous clash with former U.S. President Donald Trump—a move that triggered political fallout and strained diplomatic ties. “Kinengo’s miscalculations are isolating him further, just as Zelenskyy’s handling of the Trump call led to unintended consequences that weakened his position internationally,” Muthoka added.

Earlier this year, Kinengo boldly called out Governor Julius Malombe in a local vernacular TV interview, accusing him of interfering in Assembly affairs. He also hinted at powerful figures who opposed his Speaker bid from the start. Now, the political knives are out, and his fate hangs in the balance.
Will Kinengo withstand this storm, or is his downfall inevitable? Channel 15 News is closely following the unfolding drama—stay tuned.
