A police officer has been arrested in connection with a series of violent robberies that have unsettled residents of Bondo, Siaya County, in a case that has raised fresh concerns over crime and integrity within the security sector.
Police Constable Mark Owino was apprehended on Wednesday evening at Holo Police Station at around 7:40 p.m., following intensified investigations into a robbery with violence incident reported earlier this month.
According to an incident report filed at Bondo Police Station, the arrest is linked to a robbery reported at Lwala Kotiende Police Station on February 4, 2026, at approximately 3:40 a.m.

The incident occurred at Ajigo Trading Center, where a group of armed robbers was captured on CCTV footage harassing a trader before making away with stolen items. The suspects were seen fleeing the scene on a motorcycle, a detail that proved crucial in narrowing down the investigation.
Authorities say the officer is currently in custody and will be subjected to further investigative procedures, including an identification parade, as detectives seek to establish the full extent of his involvement and whether more suspects are linked to the robberies.
Police have confirmed that Owino is expected to be arraigned at Bondo Law Courts on February 9, 2026, as investigations continue.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the region, with residents calling for swift justice and accountability as police probe the disturbing allegations.
