Kitui Woman Representative Dr Irene Kasalu has assured residents of Mwingi North that their Member of Parliament, Paul Nzengu, is recovering well in hospital and is expected to return to public duties once his recovery allows.
Kasalu gave the update after visiting the two-term Wiper MP in India, where he is reportedly receiving treatment following an extended absence from the public eye.
According to Kasalu, Nzengu is in good spirits and making progress, offering reassurance to constituents who have been concerned about his prolonged absence from public engagements.

A video circulating on social media shows Nzengu walking alongside Kasalu and Makueni Woman Representative Susan Kiamba during what was reported to be a visit to the hospital where he is admitted.
The footage offers a rare public glimpse of the legislator, whose absence has drawn attention in recent months, although details about his medical condition and the duration of his hospitalisation have not been officially disclosed.
Nzengu’s absence has been particularly noticeable at several political and public events in the region.
His last known public appearance was during the Wiper Democratic Party’s entry into the Lower Eastern region, after which he has largely remained out of the public spotlight.
On Mashujaa Day, when Mwingi North hosted celebrations at Tharaka University in Thagicu Sub-County, the MP was represented at the event rather than attending in person.
He was also notably absent during the recent clearance of candidates by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the Migwani Ward by-election, even as Wiper leaders and legislators rallied behind their party’s candidate.
His absence from these engagements had left residents with limited information about his whereabouts and well-being.

Kasalu’s update is therefore likely to ease some of the uncertainty surrounding the MP’s health, even as constituents await his return to public life.
For the people of Mwingi North, the immediate concern remains the recovery of their elected representative and his eventual return to the responsibilities of office.
While Kasalu has offered an encouraging account of his condition, further official details about his treatment and expected discharge date remain unavailable.
