One person has been confirmed dead following a grisly road accident involving four trailers at Masimba, Emali along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway early Friday morning.

Speaking to Channel 15 News via phone, Masimba Police Commander Gitonga Nderitu confirmed the fatality, noting that efforts were still underway to access the full wreckage and ascertain whether more people might be trapped or killed.

“The scene is still being cleared. The trailers were extensively damaged and we are working to confirm if there could be more casualties,” Nderitu said.

Several people sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to Kilome Hospital in Emali town for treatment.

The accident has caused a major traffic snarl-up on both sides of the highway, with police officers currently on the ground working to ease the congestion and remove the wreckage.

Motorists plying the route are advised to be patient and follow police directives as efforts to restore normal traffic flow continue.
